Les Capucins contemporary art center

The Les Capucins contemporary art center offers four to five exhibitions a year.

Each accompanied by artistique events (Performances, readings, concerts, video projections, etc…) and awareness-raising actions for all audiences, particularly school children (meetings with artists, guided tours, visual arts workshops).
This center is located in Embrun in the region of the High mountains. Taking place in a church rehabilitated in 2011, it organizes exhibitions and events within its walls, from April to November, and outside the walls throughout the year.
Artists are most often invited to produce new pieces by considering the specific context of the host place. This implication on the production side, coupled with prospecting work, allows the art center to position itself, not as a simple relay of what has already been exposed, but at the beginning of the distribution chain.

In addition to artistic exhibitions and events, Les Capucins regularly offers meetings with art professionals as well as screenings of documentary films, the Apéros Docs.

Individual support is systematically offered to each visitor to the exhibitions. Rather than a visit, this meeting takes the form of an exchange, most often informal, around the issues raised by the works presented.

The contemporary art center is also developing an awareness program for schoolchildren, who come from all over the department to take advantage of the visits and workshops. The Capucins receive more than 1000 students during each of the exhibitions.

Finally, since 2017, the contemporary art center offers two research and experimentation residences, one by invitation and one by call for projects.
